A Scar of the Doll – a doll, a secret, and bonds

Welcome to the first official post of my blog ๐Ÿ˜€

To get you an idea of my post styles, I will be doing a review of a free iOS visual novel that I like very much.

“A Scar of the Doll”

A Scar of the Doll

How’s that title make you feel? Another hint: the title is a foreshadow.

“Ningyou no Kizuato” is a short 3-6 hours visual novel by Child Dream available in Japanese and English. The game is a blend of horror, thriller, sci-fi and mystery, and I’ll tell you: it’s awesome.

Asumi’s sister is missing. Where could she be?

The story follows a young women called Asumi Kamijo. It is near Christmas, and Asumi is determined to find out where her missing sister is. She heads to her sister’s apartment in Tokyo with a Teddy bear that her sister gave her. Shortly after arrival, Asumi senses that something is not right. People kept denying that her sister exists altogether. Frightening facts awaits Asumi asย she tries to find out her sister’s whereabouts in this place where nobody can be trusted.

As Asumi meets new people and unravel secret after secret, she found out that everything she knows isn’t really what it’s like.

This is a simulation game where you can walk around the place and make choices. Be careful: they give you a lot of save slots, use it. If you made the wrong choice, it may be game over for you. The game itself is pretty straightforward and self explanatory.

Note: slide down two fingers for the interface and one finger for the log.

The game uses photographic backgrounds like Ryukishi-07’s visual novels. A portrait is used in place of sprites, and yes, there are CGs in the game. As for music, they’re nice and mood building. I especially like the Christmas song they used and the music they played when you’re in trouble.

I had to update my iPad to iOS 7 just to play this game and I do not regret it.

While the art and translation might not be the best, this is excellent for a free game, and it isn’t long before the game gets real creepy. There are a lot of holes in the initial summary, and you’ll find out why. I don’t want to ruin this game for anybody, so take out you apple and key “A Scar of the Doll” into the app-store right now. Tap install, key your password, open the game, and press new game, do it! ๐Ÿ™‚

At first I was kind of hesitant on getting the game, because gameplays like Moon. and the Galaxy Angel fangame is not really my thing. After stumbling around I found myself enjoying A Scar of the Doll very much. (To be very honest, one of the bad ends still gives me nightmares ๐Ÿ˜€ ) They made good use of plot twists. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a horror visual novel. It’s dramatic. It’s suspenseful. It’s good.

To avoid further spoiler, I’ll end my review (more like recommendation) here. Share your opinion with me if you like!

See you in the next post ;P
