Taisho Otome Otogibanashi Ep. 1 Review – this. this is just so wholesome.

After we had takt Op. Destiny, we have another anime about a guy with a disabled right arm who’s sort of a pessimist shut-in, who comes to view the world better because of a girl. That’s pretty much the premise of Taisho Maiden Fairy Tale, a story about a girl sent to marry the unwanted bocchan of the Shima family, Tamahiko.

A self-dubbed pessimist hikkikomori, after a car accident that robbed him of both his mother and his right hand, Tamahiko was exiled to a mountain mansion in Chiba to rot away into obscurity. He spends his days imagining and replaying horrible remarks from his family and his nights tossing with insomnia. Until one day, Yuzuki showed up. Yuzuki was bought from her debt-ridden family and sent to become Tamahiko’s bride/caretaker. Her optimism and determination will slowly cause Tamahiko’s life to change.

takt Op. Destiny Ep. 1-2 review – Pathetique is not pathetic, mind you

Once upon a time, a weird black meteorite fell and along with it came D2, alien thingies that attack whatever that makes beautiful noises, be it a huge symphony or a simple piano.

Takt’s father died during the Boston Tragedy, where the D2s attacked during a concert. Since then, he’s been a shut-in, only playing the piano for himself. However, due to a turn of fate, he is now traveling to New York with his friend Anna and ‘Destiny’, a Musicart that’s able to fight the D2s.

We have another anime with the main guy being a shut-in missing his right arm, with the other one being Taisho Otome Otogibanashi. Also, Takt’s seiyuu voices 2 other animes this season. Wowwwww.

I didn’t do it intentionally. When I was 12 or 13, I had no clue how to Japanese and could not remember the name of the first arc, so I went with whichever arc popped up first on the search.

Sword of the Stranger (Stranger: Mukou Hadan) Review

Stranger: Mukou Hadan is a piece of art.

Also known as Stranger: Mukou Hadan, the movie follows a displaced boy and his poisoned dog who hired a nameless ronin to protect them from the Chinese.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash – I’m confused but it was a good movie

At this point, the only Gundam series I’ve watched in entirety is G Gundam (when I was 4 years old). I’ve watched a bit of OO and Seed Destiny while it was airing on TV but was kinda meh. Last year, I also watched Narrative and was thoroughly confused. I don’t know what made me watch Hathaway, but I gotta say, for a non-Gundam fan, it was a pretty good movie.

The movie is about this Hathaway Noa guy, who’s actually a leader of a terrorist group. He befriends a military officer and a weird girl who seems to have like, 3 personalities in one person. Stuff happened.

This is based off a database I found that has some kind of fancy statistics calculation to it. I’m surprised I actually have watched a lot of stuff on that list, so here goes.

Twinkle Nora Rock Me (did I spell that correctly?)

Yes, I watched the legend. On 1.5 speed to make the animation seem smoother. It didn’t help.

TNRM is what happens when a guy gets enough budget to animate his imaginary girlfriend and makes her do every badass things imaginable for no logic at all. If Nora was as famous as Mary Sue, the word Nora will actually replace the term Mary Sue for characters of her type. And the small guy is obviously not the creator’s stand-in.

Nora has an uninteresting plot, cheesy music that does not really fit the scene, and horrible powerpoint animations. All the random dancing did not help. Nora, you’re not a Disney princess.

Legend of Lemnear

I feel that there’s an actual plot in Lemnear. However, the boobs were too distracting.

Plus side: Even for its era, I thought the animation looked really pretty. Also, that scene close to the end almost had me.

Compared to some stuff from the first part, Lemnear wasn’t that bad. It was very forgettable. Yeah, it was bad but definitely not worst. Just that the focus was too much on the boobs.

Worst Anime – I watched them so you don’t have to

Arguably there is no bad or good art, but people will generally agree that some of these anime can be considered worse than others. Here are some.

Pupa

Yea, this is on every list. To be honest, the first 3 episodes of Pupa were actually faithful to the manga and it seemed like the story was heading somewhere interesting… but it crashed and burned to the ground due to pacing issues. If you enjoy a combination of cannibalism and sexual incest overtones where the sister makes suggestive noises as she eats her brother alive, well, give it a watch. Plus side, it ends with a ‘see the rest of the story in the manga’.

I’m not going to say the manga was a masterpiece (even though I have the damn collector’s edition sitting in my bookshelf) but it has the atmosphere and the gravity that just pulls you in (minus the incest undertones that just gets worse once you find out Yume’s true identity). The anime has none of that. The worst choice they could’ve made is to make the episodes 5 minutes long, which simply does not work on a thriller-horror.

Skelter Heaven

Wow, this thing has a 1.9 rating! So Skelter Heaven is based on a PS2 game… by Idea Factory. *Diabolik Lovers PTSD triggered* The opening theme is pretty nice, and there seem to be some interesting stuff going on… but the animation is just downright horrible. I swear the morning cartoons in my days did a better job with 3D animation than this. I’d have thought the studio made it with Flash or something. Also, the transitions are so bad I’d think the people who made it never made a movie or even a video before…

From what I gathered, it’s about a bunch of girls in flying machines, and they fight this stupid squid alien that’s horribly animated… The main girl is an artificial being that seems to have a thing going on with the Captain. That’s all I can glean from this.

It reminds me a lot of Kishin Houkou Demonbane OVA…

Ah, Key. A visual novel studio known for their tear-jerking drama and weird facial anatomy. Creators of iconic visual novels like Kanon, Clannad, and Little Busters! Among them is a visual novel with iconic concept and characters… POTATO! *cough* Sorry, I meant Air.

Violet Evergarden Movie Review – is Gilbert dead? Watching anime movies during a pandemic is kind of nice actually

And no it’s not Fate/Evergarden although the posters were right beside each other lol.

I went to see Violet Evergarden Movie in theaters today and I was the only person in the whole theater. No, in the whole cinema, even. Nobody else bought tickets in the same time slot even for other movies. I saw no one. Not even the ticket staff. Not even the door people. I could take off my face mask and cry and nobody gave a damn because there was no one else but me, sitting in the exact middle of the theater amid empty chairs. The only person I saw was the staff selling popcorn.

Okay, enough about that. Let’s move on to the review.
