Fairy Gone Ep. 3-6 Review

There are two good things about Fairy Gone:

  1. The music
  2. The action

So far, we have Veronica and Klara kicking people’s butts around while Dorothea searches for the Black Fairy Tome. Klara and Marlya had some cool interactions as they go on a mission together (these two make a great pair), and we get some flashback on Klara and Nein. Klara is my favourite character in the show right now.

Animation is good. I like the art style a lot. No issue in particular with the 3D, they look cool.

One issue is that I should not have to look in Fairy Gone wiki just to confirm what happened. Fairy Gone has too many infodumps (plus, the names are so hard to remember despite being in English. What is the point of introducing Marlya’s pokemon’s scientific name anyway?). I have no clue who’s fighting who and which person is fighting for which faction aside from those of Dorothea. Still no clue what Gui Carlin and Arcame are doing or what they even want. Seriously, this issue could be fixed by alotting 3 minutes of an episode for a recap, but nope, never got that.

There are some anime that works better when you don’t explain anything. Take Serial Experiments Lain as an example. But not action-fantasy, no, you can’t get away not having some straightforward exposition. Fairy Gone doesn’t explain much (and when it does, it does in snippets), and that just made the plot unnecessarily confusing.

I really hope I can come to understand the Unification War one day. So many countries. So many factions. I feel like the story is heading somewhere interesting, fingers crossed.
