Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya Episode 7-10 Review – Athena is OP and she knows it

We’re back with part 2 of this reimagining of a well-beloved manga/anime, and hey, it’s getting a bit better after whatever mess happened in the first part. Seiya is still bland as heck but it’s understandable for a standard MC of an animated series that’s supposed to be for those under 12 years of age.

Oh, by the way, the Dragon Saint just poked his own eyes out.

And Shaka looks so damn gorgeous in this new CGI.

So just to recap what happened, a bunch of silver saints attacked the MC’s gang. Marin was helping Seiya along (shit I miss that scene where Marin had to fight this one mind reader guy, she was like ‘if you can read my mind and my moves all in advance, then I’ll just not think about anything!’ with her poker mask face and then managed to win. Legendary lol) Ikki/Nero knocked a few out, and this Perseus dude was using Medusa’s head to turn everyone to stone so Shiryu/Long poked his own eyes out (offscreen) to defeat him. Stuff happened, and the Pope sent Leo Aiolia after Saori/Sienna along with Scorpio Milo. Aiolia was so impressed by Saori’s speech that he immediately forgot all his angst against his brother and decided to join forces with her. He also told Seiya that his sister Seika/Patricia did not die but escaped somewhere. He went back to convince the Pope and had a showdown against Virgo Shaka.

I think the good part about these episodes are that the bad guys aren’t always the bad guys, and there’s internal conflict going on among characters like Aiolia (who should’ve doubted Saori more, just saying!) and Shaina (who cares more about Pegasus armor’s legacy than revenge for her student), and there’s some unresolved things about Ikki/Nero. One thing I find kind of weird is that Shaka doesn’t seem like the type to start a fight, let alone a One-Thousand-War… I’d expect more like Shura or Camus, or even Milo himself to step up and defend to Pope, since Shaka’s usually just meditating in the temple lol.

There’s a lot of debate on Sh(a)un’s gender swapping, and like, if they want a strong female character they should have focused more on Saori or Shaina or Marin. I see that the writing is trying to step it up for Saori. She has the most cosmo out of the entire human cast, and if she decided to use it, there’s no doubt she’ll easily be super powerful… but nah. She doesn’t use it unless for a simple show of power or sincerity. (And welp she wasn’t trained to fight anyway) Which works for her, considering that if she actually hurts any of the silver or gold saints herself, that’s even more evidence for the prophecy. Her strength lies in her strong faith in what she believes in and her trust in her companions, and although the doesn’t show it much, she’s the glue of the group. Her words are her power. She doesn’t need to be a man with boobs to be a strong female lead. Even if she needs other to do the fighting, she’s strong in her own way.

No doubt if she gets to talk to the other more perceptive saints, she could potentially win them over. But that’s my guess anyway. The silver saints still won’t listen to her lol.
