My Personal Guide to Razor – Genshin Impact

Hi. I’m a Razor main, so I’ll be sharing some tips on him and his teammates that I kinda figured out through trial and error.

Razor – Introduction

Razor’s main source of damage comes from physical damage – his normal attacks. His role in the team is a DPS, since his skills are designed to pretty much just boost his own damage. His burst requires him to be on the field since it disappears once you switch him out.

His E skill, Claw and Thunder, does electro damage (and can decrease def with constellations) but the main reason you’ll be wanting this is not for the electro damage but for the sigils – it helps him charge his burst faster. You can also use this skill (hold) for fishing and mining.

His burst skill, Lightning Fang, disables his charged attack and increase the speed of his normal attack. This summons the Wolf Within, which attacks along with Razor. This burst ends if you switch Razor out. Maximizing his burst uptime is key for DPS Razor.

Razor is usable at C0, but I think at least a C4 makes him even stronger.

For his normal attack sequence, you can go click-click-click-dash or click-click-click-E to cancel the delay caused by his 4th attack. This is not a problem with his burst up.

Recommended reaction – Superconduct

Superconduct reduces physical resistance by 50% and spikes his damage up even higher. Razor can hit 10k+ with his normal attacks.

Electro-charged is okay-ish if you don’t have a cryo, although I find his damage is not as impressive compared to a superconduct team. However, one plus is that Razor can shatter frozen enemies, and frozen helps if you’re getting overwhelmed. With his burst up, Razor will not take damage from electro-charged.

Overloaded is not impressive since not only does it sometimes send Razor himself flying, it sends enemies flying everywhere and it’s a pain to get them one by one.

Swirl is only recommended if you wanna swirl cryo for superconduct or group enemies so that Razor can go smashy-smashy on them.

Recommended resonance – High Voltage

It generates energy particles so that Razor can have his burst up consistently.

Alternately, Enduring Rock is also pretty good since it gives 15% atk bonus when he’s protected with a shield.

Recommended team members:

Cryo – Diona, Kaeya, Rosaria, or Qiqi

Diona is my go-to for every content, because not only is she a cryo and a healer that can apply consistent cryo on the field, she has a shield that protects Razor for the duration of his burst. (You won’t believe how many times I got him killed while on his burst lol, I need Diona in my life)

Kaeya’s burst applies cryo to surrounding enemies and stays on even if he leaves the field. The biggest benefit is that the hula-hoop moves with the character, and Razor is a character that moves around a lot (if you don’t have control characters like Venti or Kazuha), so it’s a pretty neat skill. Kaeya also has a low cooldown so you can constantly apply cryo with his E.

Rosaria’s burst is also consistently applies cryo on enemies, but the downside is that it stays stuck in one place. However, if you have crowd control characters such as Venti or Kazuha, this is not a problem. Rosaria’s burst stays on the ground for a long time. Rosaria also gives crit rate buff. She is a good team member to have.

Qiqi is a healer and her E loops around the character, so movement is not a problem. She’s quite nice for constant HP regen and applying cryo. Unlike Diona, if you run Qiqi you will be healing against the damage, not shielding them.

Chongyun is not recommended since he changes Razor’s physical damage to cryo damage. You’ll be wasting Razor’s passive 30% phy dmg bonus.

My team: Razor, Fischl, Diona, Albedo/Kazuha

Fischl is there for energy charging and extra damage from superconduct. When dealing with mobs, I switch her with Sucrose/Kazuha since they can spread Cryo and drag the mob in one spot.

Diona will always be there. I cannot do anything without Diona.

Albedo is there as a sub-DPS from his Isotoma. He gives Razor extra shields in case Diona’s is on cooldown. This is just my personal thing, because Albedo is my sub-DPS and he helps Razor clear mobs faster.

Alternative teammates: Xinyan and Bennett

Honestly not my favorite combination since Xinyan’s physical damage boost requires her to charge-attack at enemies first (plus she’s a bit of a headache to build). Bennett infuses pyro on the character, so Razor sometimes goes flying and enemies scatter everywhere. You might also get the Melt reaction instead of Superconduct that you want.

Alternative teammates: Xinqiu and Barbara

Barbara is especially good with Dragon Slayers since she can slap almost 50% atk boost on Razor. Xinqiu has damage reduction and healing, and with his burst he can act as a sub-DPS. Since Razor’s burst makes him immune to electro-charge, getting wet is not a problem.

Weapon

Wolf’s Gravestone is SS for Razor. Alternately, you can go for Prototype Archaic. Serpent Spine is also good if you have shields. Honestly, I’m not a fan of Serpent Spine even if I run two shield characters lol. The reason being I can’t get enough of it from wishes to give meaningful boost.

Artifacts

Recommended stats: Atk, Cri, Cri dmg, and PHY DMG

Razor has intrinsic energy recharge mechanism so it is not as important if you have other batteries in your team ex. Diona or Sucrose

Whether you select cri or cri dmg for your circlet will be cased on the substats on your other artifacts, so personally I farm circlet last.

It is 1000000% recommended to get a Phy dmg goblet on Razor.

Recommended sets

2 Chivalry + 2 Gladiator OR 4 Gladiator OR 4 Pale Flame

Personally, I like to go for 4 Gladiator just because it’s easier to farm. If you’re running physical damage build, go for 2 Chivalry/2 Pale Flame. If you like to be complicated, go for 4 Pale Flame. Honestly I just like things simple so even if some people did complicated calculations and said that Pale Flame gives higher damage, I’ll still go for 4 Gladiator since it doesn’t require Razor to stack his elemental skill.

Alternately, 4 Retracing Bolide is a nice option since it gives 40% normal attack boost. I have not tested this set yet, but it seems to make Razor more tanky while sacrificing a bit of his damage. Good only if you have shield/geo characters in your team, though.

Personal Comments

Razor is overall a pretty simple DPS to use. Paste cryo on enemies, give him a shield, and he’s ready to go smashy-smashy. He’s good when there are only few targets but very bad on mobs without crowd control characters like Venti, Kazuha, or Sucrose. Razor doesn’t give impressive burst damage like Zhongli, Hu Tao, or Childe, since he deals damage more gradually through his normal attacks.

Razor is a cute wolf boy and I love him. I love how his voice lines are just him making noises haha. My personal fav voice is Japanese, and I find it funny how his English voice gives completely different vibes than the other 3 voices. Razor honestly needs more love and I’m happy if you’ve decided to become his new Lupical.
