Yume Oukoku to Nemureru Hyaku-nin no Ouji-sama (Yume100) Ep. 12 Review

Aaaaand still we never get to see Troymare.

Me neither!

Summary: Princess killed the annoying eyepatch guy, Setiq dies, Kiel decides to rebuild Atlas, Arvy, Navi, and the Princess heads off to the root of all problems in the anime: Troymare. And cut.

It was an emotional episode, but the art is clunky as always. The episode felt like trying to extend 10-minutes worth of story into a 24-minute one. The ending was good, but the final boss fight was anti-climatic and not very memorable.

I do love the scene where the heroine and Arvy walks on the Moon Road while Kiel says goodbye from below. It’s the one moment where Kiel comes off as an independent character. It shows his newfound strength quite well.

Why is it that the only person who gets great development out of the entire cast happens to be Setiq? His motives are clearly established and we can even sort of feel for him. Plus, he’s probably the only one where the writers put a lot of thoughts into. In contrast, the anime barely shows anything of the main cast’s motives (plus the hastily shoved “we’re going to Troymare!” in the last minute). Kiel kept saying that he wants to find Setiq but never did anything to accomplish that until the few final episodes. He felt really weak. Arvy got some character development, but not enough for a character who had been in the show since day one. I don’t think it’s ever made clear why he wanted to go to Troymare in the first place. (His mommy issues got brushed aside again and I still didn’t get to see his dog animated.) The heroine had one good moment (the axe scene) before falling flat. Not expecting much of a self-insert heroine anyway.

Overall, Yume100 felt like extending a story meant for 8-episodes into a full season. It has its moments, but how it’s paced felt awkward and slow. This anime is something good to watch if one has a lot of free time.
